Nest Cam Indoor security camera

My review for Nest Cam Indoor security camera

What is the Nest Cam Indoor Security Camera?

Since the purchase of Dropcam by smart-thermostat and Google Nest, Nest Cam is the first product to have been unveiled. With a video resolution of 1080p, a rotating magnetic stand, and other minor improvements, Nest Cam is an upgrade on Dropcam Pro – the last edition security cam released by Dropcam before its takeover.
Nest Cam provides a 1300 wide-angle view, and comes with a 24/7 live streaming functionality, to ensure that every activity is captured, whether you are available or not. A versatile magnetic, rotating stand lets you put it anywhere, while Nest Aware ensures you receive regular security alerts based on its motion sensors. A two-way microphone enables clear communication from both ends.
The app, which is available on Android and iOS allows for remote control of the camera angle, from anywhere, and is easy to set up. Its 1300 field view provides a wide-angle vantage point, without any obstructions. While its 8x zoom capability lets you zoom in on a specific part of your house.
Nest Cam is available for $200 in the US. While the Nest Aware cloud storage service is enjoyed upon payment of a subscription of $10/month for 10 days continuous recording, and $30/month for 30 days continuous recording.

Security Features

When purchasing a security camera, major consideration is given to the video quality and storage capabilities. The 1080p HD quality that accompanies the Nest is second to none, and is clearly seen from the quality of video streaming. Night vision is also as clear as can be, due to the infrared functionality which lets you view the whole house comfortably at night, not just an angle.
However, the pre-programmed (and un-customizable) 30-minute interval between motion notifications, leaves a huge amount of time for a burglary to take place. What this means is that after a motion alert is sent due to any trigger, no alert is sent across for subsequent detections. Upon expiration of a 30-minute interval, a security alert is sent in for any detected motion by the sensors, at the time. Still, this is optional, and a 30-day free trial period allows you decide whether you need this feature, or not.
Realizing the importance of proper video storage by a security camera, Nest utilizes cloud storage which can be accessed at any time, and is secure enough to prevent a breach.

Pros
1. 1080p HD video quality.
2. Magnetic stand which is easily attachable.
3. Pivoting stand for angle optimization.
4. Cloud storage service.
5. Easy to use.
Cons
1. The monthly subscription fee can be a put-off.
2. An interval of 30 minutes between motion alerts makes this more of a webcam than a security camera.
